What it is for

A summary of the period written by the AI analyst. The error list says what happened; the insight says what it means: what went up, what debuted together, what was already like that last week.

When one is born

  • In the period analysis, overnight, over the last 24 hours.
  • In the common cause: when several distinct errors debut in the same interval, meulog finds the cluster (the correlation is arithmetic; the AI only names the suspicion).
  • In the deploy verdict: once the settling period passes, the before-and-after comparison becomes text.
  • When the AI proposes something new: one notice per run saying how many proposals are waiting for a decision.

Where it shows up

  • On the Insights dashboard, which comes ready.
  • On the channel you use: an insight fires the insight event, and whoever listens receives it. The alert rule decides who.
Why it is stored and not just sent

An insight that only exists in a Slack message is lost: whoever opens the dashboard on Monday wants to read Saturday. So it becomes a record, with a date and the name of the analyst that wrote it.

With no AI at all

With no analyst on, the common cause and the deploy verdict still exist: they are counting, and the text comes out in a plainer version. The period summary is the one that depends on a model.
